Paige looking proud with her workWelcome to Year 1's web page. Please have a look at how busy we have been.

In Year 1, we are given our weekly spellings to practise every night in preparation for our test . We use the Look, cover, say, write and check method.

There are a number of activities online that help children with their spellings of high frequency words. Click here for an example.

We are also very creative in Year 1 and are lucky to have our Art expert, Mrs Fitzpatrick, as our class teacher. The picture on the left is just 1 example of how we use Art in other areas of the curriculum.

In Year 1, we try and use very practical methods of teaching to help the children with their Maths work. As you can see from the picture, the children find it really enjoyable using their imagination whilst learning all about 2D shapes. We also feel that children gain a great deal from playing maths games to help with their counting and as you can see, just by playing a simple game of snakes and ladders can really engage the children.

In our Design and Technology topic, we have been making levers. We had to use a variety of different skills including cutting, sticking and using paper fasteners to make sure our objects were able to move. We had a really lovely time.
