Welcome to Year 1's web page.
Click here to visit the children's work. This will be updated on a regular basis, so be sure to visit as often as possible. Each term we work on a variety of topics as defined by The National Curriculum. This is what we're doing this year:
Staff – Mrs Croxall will teach for 6 out of the 10 sessions each week. Mrs Fitzpatrick will teach for the remaining 4 sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Mrs Wheeler also works in Year 1. Planning – There is a great deal of planning involved for the delivery of the National Curriculum. We now cover a great deal of work, and the children do miss a lot if they are absent. Reading– Children will read a lot at school as often as possible to the teacher and to other support assistants. Please try and read with your child for about 10 minutes every evening, and record this in their reading diary. Writing – We aim to increase the children’s confidence in writing, and encourage them to write independently with the help of wordbooks by the end of the year. Speaking – Children will be encouraged to write their own news each week so it is helpful if they are able to talk about this at home. Spelling – There will be a spelling test each week, and children will bring a list of 5 words home on Mondays, to be tested on Fridays. This will increase to 10 words as the year progresses. Handwriting – A good handwriting style is encouraged, and special handwriting books are used. Mathematics – This will be taught based on the National Numeracy Strategy. The school uses Heinemann Mathematics as a support. Science – This will include formal experiments and recording. P.E. – This is held on a Tuesday. Please could children have their P.E. kits in school on that day. |
